I arrived at my late mother's house to discover I had a problem with the plumbing. I only have a limited amount of time and needed plumbing repairs done right away.  The owner came out himself that same day and assessed the situation.  He didn't have any available workers, so he came out himself the next day and completed all of the repairs.  I am extremely grateful for his fast service.  For all of the things that needed to be done, I found his price very reasonable.  I highly recommend this company.

When I purchased my water heater at Home Depot there were tags all over saying same day installation. So I bought it and they told me free installation. They put in a lead to Dukes, dukes called me and informed not same day and install was going to be $2300.00. I called local plumber who quoted 240-300. I called Dukes back and was informed none of this was their problem. Will never give $ 1 to Dukes

Today 08-25-21 Dukes Plumming crude words I will call  senior abuse.  The owners word's degraded me calling me names simply because I told them their services basically was incompetent.... approximately 4 years ago they installed a heating and air conditioning unit for another Senior , paid over $5,000...this year the air conditioning unit didn't work.  Called... Duke's plumbing....their label on everything, they then and now denied putting this unit in.  I called Hawkins htg and Air conditioning...found the installation poorly installed, the drip line set in unit drip pan causing substantial damage to coil...acid eating away.  Cost over $1,300 to repair.  This Duke's plumbing company is a...bait and switch, lie when invoices show the installation by them...and because I called them out being 70 years myself the so-called owner verbally attempted to put me down with language unfit for them to be in business.  I am going to call 99.1 to advise them the cruelty bigotry remarks against seniors...and the BBB.  They must make up their five star rating somewhere...me,  I would give them a falling 🌠 star.  I am sure the have done decent work somewhere....but....

Duke's Plumbing employees never wear masks when coming into our house to fix things and don't have the respect to even ask or consider whether or not we are comfortable with that. Very unprofessional and unsafe for these men to be doing this. I am very unhappy with them. Not to mention how expensive they are and have never done the job right the first time. We always have to call them a second time to have them come fix the first job they did.

Complaint: Deceptive business practices

On 12/08/2020 Duke's Plumbing (Mr. David Gutierrez) was asked to make an estimate for installing approximately 80 feet of gas line with MISC hardware.  He was on site approximately 1 hour. He presented an estimate of $3,690 to my wife.  She is senior citizen and English is her second language, so she had some difficulty understanding Mr. Gutierrez.  When asked Mr. Gutierrez indicated that it would take at least one full day to complete the work.  Our understanding at the time was that we were being presented a cost estimate.

The worked was completed on 12/11/2020 by two technicians with time on site of about two to maximum three hours.  On 12/14/2020 a technician showed up to check for leaks with about 15 - 30 min on site.

I have asked the owner Mr. David Gutierrez to provide a detailed accounting for all parts and labor costs before I make the final payment. He has failed to do so.  He claims that it was a "flat rate" contract.  However, he did not verbally make me aware of this at the time I signed the contract.  Note that on the first and only readable page on his IPAD it says "Estimate" while on the last page, nearly unreadable on his IPAD it says "flat rate".  I consider this to be deceptive.

Mr. Gutierrez's "estimate" was $ 3690.00.  My general contractor indicated that the customary cost of this work should range from $800 to $1200.

On 12/21/2020 Mr. Gutierrez called my wife and demanded the remaining payment of $2000. She told him that he needed to talk to me and suggested he call back later as I was not available. He called again and when she said I still was not available and suggested that he call tomorrow, he became verbally abusive and threatened with legal action. She became very distressed. We have a witness to this conversation. I am not sure why he called my wife and threatened her with the legal action. He and his office have my direct number and I am only asking for a more detailed itemized invoice.

Today I got a call from Margie at Dukes Plumbing who left the following message: "Hello, I'm from Dukes heating and air and this is my final call to collect the balance due on the job that has been finalized and has been approved through the company I'm is for the county I am letting you know your property is been lean on your wife will be served by the Douglas County Sherriff to appear in court for the remaining balance due on the invoice from Duke's plumbing heating and air..."

I called back and spoke to Margie, the office manager, and she told me that my wife would be served by the Douglas County Sheriff tomorrow to appear in court for payment.  I asked why they were picking on my wife as she was not the one who had signed the contract. Margie said she did not care if the dog had signed the contract.  She was preparing the paperwork and would head over to the Douglas County Sherriff's office.

I do not want to have my wife subjected to this, she is still upset by the call from Mr. Gutierrez yesterday, so I paid without getting the requested itemized invoice.

Our further complaint is that Duke's Plumbing collected potentially disputed charges via threats of immediate legal action.  Again, I had not refused to pay I just asked for a more detailed accounting of labor and material costs.

The numerous complaints (26) on Yelp, Google and the Better Business Bureau are consistent with my current experience with Duke's Plumbing.  The company seems to have a record of over pricing and taking advantage of seniors.

My concern is that other seniors without the support my wife has and ability to pay, are being subjected to what I consider deceptive business practices and "strong arm" tactics.  I hope the Office of Nevada Attorney General will take appropriate actions against Duke's Plumbing.

I contacted the Douglas County Sheriff's office regarding the above.  I was told that the office does not handle consumer disputes which are civil matters, and would not serve any summons as claimed by Margie at Duke's Plumbing.

We take customer satisfaction very seriously and are deeply troubled that you feel as though you were taken advantage of in some way.

When we arrived at your home we ran through exactly what needed to be done as well as ensured that the new gas lines would meet the needs of your family. After explaining the work that would be done and providing an estimate of how long and how much it would cost - you and your wife both happily agreed. At that point we converted the estimate into an invoice and had you sign it.

Our work can vary greatly from job to job. We do not bill by the hour but instead bill by the project. This can actually be very beneficial to the customer in the event that a project has unforeseen challenges that require a substantial amount of additional work. In cases like those the client isn't charged anything additional from the original invoice.

In this particular case our technicians were able to get the job done in a timely manner without taking any shortcuts. We even ensure that inspection is done and there are absolutely no issues at all.

Once we had the final sign off from the inspection we provided a bill for the remaining balance. To our great surprise you were very upset that we were able to do the job more quickly than we estimated and demanded that we provide details on the price. I had explained again we bid by the project but still went ahead and provided you with parts and labor.

We are saddened that it escalated to this level but the reality is you just simply refused to pay what you had agreed to because you were not satisfied with the speed at which the project was completed. Because of this we have to take more drastic steps in order to settle on the agreed and signed contract.

We really are upset by this exchange and hope that it can be clear to others that the problem began by not paying to the agreed upon price during the initial visit. Please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss this further.

Duke and his crew have worked on various jobs at my house for a number of years, and they have always done a great job.  Duke always calls to check and see how his crew did if he did not participate in the work himself.  Recently my house when up for sale and naturally I called Duke to make the necessary corrections to meet inspection standards.  Duke came out himself and made sure his crew would take care of things.  My wife and I will be moving to Reno soon and will miss have Duke as our go to heating and plumbing guy.  I highly recommend his service.

We received great service from Duke's Plumbing and Heating last month. When I had someone come to clean my heating ducts they discovered damage to the ducts and also that some rodents had been living in them - AAGGGGH!!!! Anyway, they explained my options and when I decided those ducts had to go, they gave me a credit for my duct cleaning against the cost of the duct replacement and were super fast in getting it done with really friendly, professional service. I appreciated this because the temperatures at night were well below freezing at the time. Even though I assured them that our wood stove would get us through, they made sure that had it done in 2 days. I was so happy with the service, I had them install my new toilet as well.
