My water heater was not working properly and we could see the pilot was out. We tried lighting the pilot ourselves, but could not do so. I am handy and cannot get to the basement due to my medical condition (broken ankle at the time) to light the pilot myself or try to. Edwin Garot came to the home, did not tell us what was "wrong" nor give an estimate. The employee just lit the pilot and vacuumed out the water heater. He was here 10 minutes, 15 most and they charged over $100!!!! I cannot believe ANY company would charge over $100 for 10-15 minutes just lighting a pilot and vacuuming out the water heater. I thought the part that lights the pilot may have been broken because it did break in the past 3-5 years. This company could have TOLD me it was just the pilot and asked if I wanted him to light it and given an estimate before just DOING it and then charging $110+ to do so. I am disgusted and would not recommend using them without making them give you a written estimate and explain ALL work that needs to be done and requiring you to authorize it before doing the job!!! RIP OFF Completely. Response to Owner's Response: It is not only my responsibility to ask, which I did when calling and was told that I would be advised of an estimate to fix the water heater before work was done. The employee that came had just relit the pilot, then said that is what he did, then said he was going to vacuum it out. Not once did he say PRIOR to doing the work what the cost would be NOR did he advise me of what was wrong with the water heater. He just fixed it. As a company, you should be ashamed to think it's okay to charge a customer over $100 for what was done and then reply as you have. It is more appropriate that you would respond with not only an apology, but a refund of a reasonable price as any other company would not charge what you did for these services. I am willing to even call 5-10 companies to ask them what they would charge for what your company did (considering if they charge from the shop to the home, which would be further than you are from my home as you are the closest). In COVID, I understand businesses need money and thought I would use locally owned businesses not big businesses and support your business during the pandemic. Now I know not to as you are shady since your employees come in, just fix it and then charge whatever without getting your authorization first or telling you what is wrong. Again, I had a broken leg and I could not even get to the basement to speak with him and he did not come upstairs to offer what was wrong and the estimate/cost of repair. Over $100 again for just turning on the pilot and vacuuming is just a complete SCAM and you, as an owner, should be ashamed to charge people in your community that amount of money.

      Response from the owner

I am sorry that you were disappointed in our service for relighting your pilot, cleaning the burner area on your water heater and restoring hot water to your home. In the future, please make sure to know what a contractor's charges are before they come to your home.

Garot Plumbing did a fantastic job on my parent's remodel. They took apart the original 1970s bathroom, complete with Kohler pink tub, shower and sink. They helped my parents achieve a beautiful bathroom which is perfect for aging in place. Thanks especially to Lisa Garot for her patience in answering lots of questions. This is a true "old school" Green Bay business that you can trust.
