AT Weber was subcontracted by my general contractor to install an external flue to vent my water heater and radiant heat boiler (basically just a big pipe that goes up about 30 feet). They sent me an invoice for $2.3K for this service with no detail. After having to reach out to management to get a breakdown of the invoice, I was told that parts were $450 (seemed reasonable to me) and labor was 9 man hours (to install an external flue!) at a rate of ($200/hour!!). Avoid these guys like the plague.

Please take a moment to read this before you select A.T. Weber for your plumbing work. I recently hired A.T. Weber to install a recirculating pump for my hot water system in my house. I reached out for an estimate because of the positive reviews on Yelp and I found the owner (who also did the on-site estimate) to be genuine, knowledgeable and friendly. I accepted their bid, although slightly higher than two others, because of the Yelp reviews, confidence in the owner, and a desire to support a local business in Alameda. Unfortunately I came to regret it. The plumber who performed the work was punctual and also friendly, although he was a bit confused by the specific work I requested. He didn't know exactly how to install the aquastat I was using to moderate activation of the pump and needed an electrician to come out a few days later to finish the work. The real problem was that while installing the piping for the pump the plumber unknowingly loosened a nut connecting the main gas line to the hot water heater, causing a gas leak in my (unventilated) garage. So when I came down there early the next morning to leave the house with my four year old son there was an extremely strong odor of built up gas. After evacuating my wife, son and newborn daughter out of the house I first tried the main office, leaving an urgent message that was never returned. Luckily I also happened to have the plumber's cell phone as he had previously called me for directions. Thankfully he called back after an urgent voicemail and text telling him to come out immediately because I was about to call 911. Yes, I know, I should have just immediately called 911. Did he fix the problem quickly? Yes. Am I happy that he literally almost killed my family? No. This was a built up leak in an unventilated area over the course of about 18 hours - the leak odor was very strong. Look, I understand that mistakes happen. Even really horrendous mistakes that could jeopardize my family's safety. But the fact that they never even called me back after I left that message with their office was unacceptable. In fact, the next time I heard from them was when I got an email from the office manager with a bill for the work a few weeks later with no acknowledgement of what had happened. After I replied expressing my displeasure, the manager called me and apologized, saying they had lost some voicemails... Even if that is true a simple apology is not even close to enough. Maybe others feel differently but my expectation is that they do more than say "sorry" for a situation like that. Needless to say, I don't believe I got the service I just received a bill for.

Steve from AT Weber came to my home to clean my two furnaces. He was on time, professional and extremely courteous. He did the job, left no mess and gave me valuable advice about my furnaces. In addition, I asked questions about some plumbing needs and he was very knowledgeable and willing to take the extra time to discuss some options. Very pleased with the service I received and will be calling AT Weber for all my plumbing and heating needs in the future.
