New ownership - so the old (poor) reviews do not apply! I am so happy to have found Xpert Home Services. We rent our beach cottage through VRBO, and Pauline offers a menu of services that met our needs perfectly. She and her staff provide the best, most thorough cleaning (they even clean the oven after every renter)! Just as important, they are totally reliable. I am comfortable knowing that our cottage will be spotless and the linens will be changed on every bed before new renters check in. Pauline is fantastic re: communication. Highly recommended!

Electrician did not turn off water to well pump which caused water damage to our property when the power was turned on. Reason to hire them was to meet Dominion Energy requirement before they would turn power on. Xpert Home Services did not know how to correctly submit the information which was refused negating the whole purpose for hiring them and causing us days of additional problems and we had to find a totally different resolution.

Customer service is NOT a priority at Xpert Home Services. The company experiences a great deal of employee turnover, which leads to poor communication and customer support. Some days, the office phone was answered by someone who simply said, "Hello" - not even a professional phone greeting. They also contract out most of the work being done - and they don't check on their contractors. For example, the lawn service didn't always mow the grass but we were charged anyway. We had to stay on top of Xpert to make sure the grass actually got cut. Billing is also inconsistent and they look for opportunities to upcharge. In one instance, we were charged for two hours time when our cable was serviced by the cable company and we simply needed someone from Home Xpert to let them in the home and monitor them. The cable company records technician time closely and their technician was done with his work in 45 minutes. Home Xpert refused to charge anything less than a full two hours on the same call - for simply sitting at the house. They charged us an additional fee for travel on this particular bill. Other visits to the home for work did not always include a travel fee. Billing was all over the place. Discussions with the owner did not provide clarity about the billing or offers to fix issues with billing. We signed a one year contract for property management services and worked with someone who was extremely helpful for about two months. When that person left, everything fell apart. I eventually had a conversation with the owner, who could have cared less about the problems we were having with the company. In an email to me at one point he was rude and dismissive. It was at that time that I looked up the owner on LinkedIn. He is described as a "serial entrepreneur" and when you look at his profile you will see he invests in companies and spins them off/sells them off. It seems to me that with that track record, they needn't worry about building a reputation for good customer service - the company will likely be sold or spun off to another investor. (Or taken as a loss before they move on to something else.) Note that he is also listed as the founder of Elan Vacations but he left there in 2010. We contracted with Elan the year prior and returned to them this year for our VRBO and property management services. That company is owned and operated by another individual (Norman Bibeau) and Elan is extremely customer-focused. I wish we'd never left them for the year we were with Xpert. (It was our mistake for leaving - as we had some concerns about off-season rentals that we've since worked out). Elan is the total opposite of Xpert Home Services. I've worked with the same two ladies there for three years and they know me and my property very well. They are professional, extremely quick to reply and our renters are very happy interacting with them. VRBO-style property management is an up and coming opportunity in the Outer Banks and we're seeing more companies get in the game. I recommend doing your homework and avoiding Xpert Home Services. You really need to be able to trust your home and its care to the hands of a consistent team of individuals who value your property and their relationship with you as the customer. We did not experience this with Expert Home Services.
