  Something amiss. We live 100 miles from anyplace and I can understand being charged for travel. Thornton was the only company we could get to come out and diagnose our HVAC system, and their tech did a good job. I have no complaints at all with his service or the bill for it. Our system needed to be replaced, and that's where it gets odd. A new AC/heat pump was quoted at somewhat over twice what I paid for similar work a few years ago. I know prices have gone up, and there's travel involved. But the other work I requested a quote on is where some communication error occurred. I wanted a quote for a small propane furnace for my basement. Small unit with maybe 20 feet of duct work. Quote came back at $36,000 to heat a basement less than 1000 square feet. Even for the full house I can't believe it should cost that much. When I called to inquire about the amount I was told that was just a "budgeting figure". Well it budgeted me right out of there.

  I have been using Thornton Heating and Sheetmetal to keep my 20+ year old furnace limping along for the last 2-3 years. When I woke up to a house that was abnormally frigid, I tested everything I could think of to get it working but quickly realized the problem was out of my depth. At 7:00AM I left a message on the office voicemail at Thornton heating describing my problem, by 7:45AM I had a call back (which 15 minutes before they were scheduled to open. The woman I spoke with was friendly, empathetic and promptly got a technician to my house by 8:00AM. He had been to my place before and new the furnace was a bit of a mess but he was able to promptly deduce that the circuit board was not functioning correctly and gave me some options. I chose to go with a new furnace and asked about pricing I had a verbal quote over the phone in about 2-3 minutes, at which point I agreed to a getting a new furnace. I expected to be put on to a 1-3 day wait until I was worked into their schedule. About 30 minutes later 2 guys showed up and installed the furnace. By noon my house was back up at temperature and I could take my down coat off. From my first phone call to saying thanks and goodbye to the guys who installed the furnace, Thornton's team did everything right. I could not have been any happier with each person I dealt with and their service was impeccable. Side note: I was always under the impression that a beard, measuring no shorter then 4 inches was a prerequisite to work at Thornton Heating. This theory was proved wrong by the two men that installed the furnace, they had minimal facial hair.

  These guys have been at my house repeatedly and seem unable to fix even the smallest problems. Twice in the last 10 years they have told me my boiler was shot and needed replacing when it was fixed both times for less than $20 by someone else. I had them replace leaking water lines and they charged me a ton of money for it when they only did a partial replacement and the problem continued. They added glycol to my system three times in four months and never bothered to investigate or fix the root problem, which was the leaky line they didnt bother to replace. This ultimately caused other issues down the road that they couldnt fix either. Dont let them in your house - it will only end up with you spending a lot of money and being told that some or all of your equipment needs replacing at a huge price tag when it really doesnt
