My family shares a well with our neighbors. We had a leaking tank, so we contacted Peterson Well Drilling and Thein. Peterson gave us a quote for a replacement tank. Thein did not give us a quote, but my neighbor chose to go with them because they had already started the work. We assumed it would be around the same as Peterson since it's the same job. My neighbor has used Thein in the past, so he trusted that they would offer a fair price. In the end, Thein charged us for a day of labor when no one was there. They over charged us by at least $2,000, including an extra three hours of labor to cover up a giant tank sticking out of the ground, which is still sticking out of the ground (shown in the attached image). Because we care about protecting other families and consumers, we would recommend using Peterson if you are looking for honesty and do not want to be charged for work that wasn't done! NOTE: Not sure what Thein means by defrauding them of half the payment. We were discussing the fact that they overcharged us by nearly 50% (as is proven by the other Well companies we called who verified this ridiculous overcharge), and we also came to the company telling them we think it's wrong to charge us $12,000 for a job that shouldn't have cost more than $9,000 at the very top end. After barely responding to all of our other questions, this finally prompted a response where small claims court was threatened. The only reason we paid the full amount at that point was because we realized this company was never going to be honest with us, and we didn't want our neighbors to go through the hassle they were attempting to put us through. He's right, if you are a customer like us that thinks it's wrong to be overcharged by $3,000 for a well that still sticks out of the ground, PLEASE use their competition, Peterson, who actually gave us an honest bid.

    Response from the owner

It's a shame to read this review. I specifically remember this job because one of the owners accidentally sent me an email meant for his neighbor (shared well) where he hatched a plan to defraud us of half of the payment (literally). When I replied to his "oops" email, I got all kinds of excuses. We ended up filing in conciliation court because it was apparent that things weren't on the up and up. Magically, payment in full appeared. If you're like them, PLEASE call our competition. Life's too short to work for people like this.

Our well pump controller went out last month and I called Thein Well to come fix it. They came quickly and the service man was very friendly and helpful. When I asked how much the part would cost, he told me between $250 and $500. A big range, but consistent with what I saw online. When I received the bill, they charged me $950!!! More than double the online cost. I would have waited a couple of extra days, bought it online and installed it myself had I know it was going to cost so much. When I called to complain, the owner told me there was nothing I could do about it and that it is how they make money. I am not complaining about the $200 installation fee, which only took 30 minutes. I know companies need to make money, but doubling the cost of a part to make money is price gouging. At least be transparent! If your business model is gouging people when they are without water, I will not give them any more of mine.

    Response from the owner

Mr. McCauley was out of water. He called, we responded immediately and we replaced the failed component. We charged him our normal price (which is the 2020 list price, even though this is 2021) and we got him back into water. To leave a one-star review for providing prompt and professional work is childish and disappointing. If Steve truly wanted to be out of water for days in order to save a few hundred dollars to buy something off of the internet with no warranty support, he should've warned the neighbor and done so. The difference between what we buy a part for and what we sell it for is our profit. Without profit, we would not be in business for 128 years and would not have been in business to answer the phone when Steve called. I've seen dozens of competitors who didn't understand that concept and failed - leaving their customers in the lurch. I'm sorry that we provided great service, got you and your neighbor back into water and then sent a fair invoice for doing so. I'm sure that you can find terrible service and no warranty support for a lesser price elsewhere. Good luck.

You should be aware you'll be charged $250 an hour travel time to your site and back again. And of course they'll have to make 2 trips. I might be out $1300, but I do have a new foot valve. (Even though the old one was fine.) Do yourself a favor and keep looking. Certainly he'll respond with some kind of excuse, looks like he always does. I feel for the other victims, which it sounds like are many. I'll have my day in court before he's paid the full amount.

    Response from the owner

Mr. Christianson was billed fairly (even gave him a goodwill discount on travel time to Austin from Rochester), stated in an email that he would pay his bill and then didn't. We took him to small claims court - at his suggestion - and he no-showed. We are hopeful that he will now pay his bill with the judgement from the court - or it will affect his credit rating and ability to sell his property. We look forward to you being a man of your word, Joseph.
