This is a tucked away gem in small town of Burlington Colorado located on the Kit Carson County Fairgrounds. Carved and built in 1905, this carousel is number 6 in the succession of the 2500 built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for Elitch Gardens in Denver Colorado. Only 150 of the original carved carousels have survived. These colorful carousel animals have been magnificently and painstakingly restored to original paint, trim and gold leaf. We road the carousel for 25 cents which is the same price it cost in 1905. The Carousel Museum is close by and costs $1.00. Both are quite a bargain!

Having read about the carousel we finally made a day trip from Aurora. What a find! 1st stop was to ride and photograph the carousel. WOW. Anita shared a vast amount of history and stories beforehand. Great gal, very knowledgeable. 2nd visited the museum, another gem all about the history of this carousel with great photos. Much more than what we expected and a great day!!!

This is one of those gems that you rarely find anymore. On the Federal Historical Register it was built in 1905. After many years of storage and almost total destruction, restoration was started in the 70's. Boasting more than 95% original paint still present on all the animals and paintings, it was amazing to ride on thia 116 year old carousel. Its only 0.25 cents to ride and there is a really cool museum to explore for only $1.00. I highly suggest stopping by and taking it for a ride with its original GM electric motor spinning you at 12 M.P.H.
