My wife called Express Rooter on the recommendation of our Foundation repair company. She was told that they would give a free estimate on a small leak that we needed taken care of. They came out this morning and went under the house. When they came back out they told us that it would be 125 dollars. The technician told us that it was just a loose connection that he hand tightened. We were a little surprised by the 125 charge considering we had only called them out for a free estimate. We talked to the manager over the phone and he said that it was a fair price because they had to come from Hartselle. They also told us that if he hadn’t tightened the connection, it would have only been a 95 dollar service call charge. No one told us anything about what was wrong or how it was fixed until we were handed the bill. We contacted our foundation guy and asked him not to recommend Express Rooter to anyone in the Athens area, and I am refusing to recommend them for anyone. Free estimates should not cost $125.

This business came out in June to our historic home (we already know our historic home would be a little more difficult) to snake our clay pipes due to root intrusion. They were out there for 5 hours, could not find a clean out valve, so inserted the snake by moving our toilet, and then they replaced the seal. All for ~$375. Not bad! Of course we would use them again! We had the same issue happen this past weekend. They came out for 3 hours and tried the same thing and could not get in the correct pipes since our piping is not directional, and charged us the same amount for $375 and did not do as much work as they did in June. They did not fix this issue, and they told us they would come out the next day, but they cancelled an hour before they came out the next day due to it sprinkling. They finally came out today, Tuesday, and excavated some of our backyard to insert a clean out valve. They predicted they would be there 2-4 hours. They were there for over 5 hours, dug into our backyard, and found a cleanout valve. They inserted the snake through the clean out valve and cleaned out all the roots in less than 30 minutes. They also took over $700 with them too. Not too happy about that. We invested over $1000 in this business in 4 days for there already to be a clean out valve.

Promised an initial appointment to my uninhabited rental property: they showed up early, started working without full discussion and approval. I only found out too late. When they'd completed most of the digging and destruction, they called to let me know what they were doing. The call was about a half hour before our agreed appointment. When I arrived to meet them at the property, they described everything that needed to be done clearly. They promised to be completed by the end of the day. Though the guys worked hard, and it was STUPID hot out there, the job want done. No problem, I thought. We made an appointment for them to come back and finish it on Thursday. I paid them for the whole job- even tipped the worker $50 on top of it. Thursday came and went- not even a call from them. Wish it had worked out differently. Three stars for the hard work, two missing for not being there when they said they would... Either time.
