The first time I hired them they were great friendly I was happy with there service. The two gentleman who came out were very respectful. Fast foward to a year later the first hot day I turned my AC on would not cool down. Come to find out where the braised the cooper together there was a tiny. Pin hole. After calling the secretary was not very friendly. And gave me the run around told me between 10 -1 he showed up at 510. Now I understand people run late a phone call would have been all I needed. So after the few minutes the service tech. Admitted it was there mistake. It happens. But they did not wanna gurantee there work. Didnt even attempt to fix it. I would have like the opportunity to talk to someone hire up who. May have gave me the opportunity to plead my case so if I get a response from the owner. Threw this review i would just like too explain the situation .

HATE THE FACT I HAVE TO GIVE A STAR TO POST. SHOULD BE ZERO OR EVEN NEGATIVE STARS. I would recommend you DO NOT use D&D Mechanical of Kerrville, TX for you HVAC issues. 23NOV21 I had D&D come out to look at my heat. Thermostat makes normal clicking sound but air handler does not come on. Tech arrives and after a bit says air handler has blown fuse and he thinks thermostat is bad. Replaces thermostat and unit works. Tech says he left A\C running and departs. Bill - $104 to come out, $78 for a non-programmable thermostat and $86.84 to screw it to the wall (HOLY HELL $86.84 to put a new thermostat back where one was already located – HIGHWAY ROBBERY). On 25NOV21 I go to turn on heat and thermostat makes clicking sound but air handler does not come on. Same as before. No one is in office (holiday then weekend) so I wait until Monday to call D&D again. Tech returns and says AGAIN fuse blown but now it’s the contactor that turns on the heat strips. Every time heat strips come on it blows the fuse. Replaces contactor and since then no more blown fuses and heat works fine. Bill - $104 to come out and contactor is covered by warranty. Total bill for both visits $380. Obviously proper diagnostics were NOT performed on the first visit, otherwise the tech would have found the contactor was the issue and NOT the thermostat. The thermostat was just the easy answer, and if it blows again they will simply charge the customer $104 again. After all the customers have money to spare. I contacted the owner and his answer was “What’s my tech supposed to do, sit there for hours and watch for it to blow again?” My answer – run it through its paces and make sure the fix sticks. Properly troubleshoot the unit. If he would have turned the heat on and cranked it up until heat strips came on it would have blown again like it did a day later. A simple ohms test of the contactor should have shown it failing and blowing fuses. Either way my biggest complaint was you are charging me $104 twice for the two calls and it should only be once since the first fix didn’t fix the issue. The owner says “It’s like you take your car to the garage and it makes one sound and next day makes a different one – does not mean they are related.” Dumbest comparison ever. I say if the car has a flat, and you change the wrong tire, then YOU didn’t fix the original issue and shouldn’t charge me another visit fee. Since the thermostat and contactor are two different parts the owner says the two separate $104 charges stand. Even though both parts resulted in the EXACT same symptoms. Both issues occurred only a day apart. Both visits had same blown fuse. A bad thermostat one day and mystically overnight now a bad contactor. I don’t buy it but the owner of D&D Mechanical is obviously more worried about $104 dollars than customer service and admitting to their technician’s mistake. Steer clear of these folks, they may BE local, but they DO NOT act like it. Only worried about the ALL MIGHTY DOLLAR.

      Response from the owner

Our company received a call from Mr. Puckett on November 23, 2021 stating that he had a unit that was not coming on. Our technician opened the unit and assessed the operation. Upon inspection, our technician noticed that two fuses had blown. He replaced the fuses and ran the system again. The fuses blew again so he replaced them and went about tracing down the short in the system that was causing the fuses to blow. The problem was traced to the thermostat. The technician then replaced the thermostat. He ran the system again and turned the unit on and off for several cycles. The unit operation was normal at this time and the technician could not get the system to act up. The $104 initial charge was for travel and diagnostics as this home is 50 minutes from our office. The $78 is for correctly diagnosing and installing the thermostat, which had to be wired into the system with the backing plate. The $86.84 is the cost of the actual thermostat. Our company did not install this unit; therefore, this was not performed under any sort of labor warranty from our company. At that time, the technician did not observe any other failings in the system after cycling the unit on and off several times. Our company was contacted the following week on November 29, 2021 saying that the unit was not working again. We returned and discovered that the contactor had failed. This issue was not present at the time of the first service and did not appear during assessment after the thermostat was replaced. This part was under a parts warranty from the manufacturer, but not a labor warranty. The second charge for $104 was, again, for travel and diagnostics. The customer was not charged for the installation of this part. We feel that our company and our technician should be paid for their time and this is our posted hourly rate. These charges were itemized and explained to the customer after he disputed them. We do not feel that there is any further correction needed on his invoice.

My HVAC unit was old (1988 inside, 1998 outside) and not very efficient. D & D got a new system installed in my home and our comfort level went way up. The crew was great and worked fast to get us the comfort and quality of service we have come to expect. Thank you to Draven, Clay, Adam, and Derrick for making our home a little more cozy this winter season.
