They never returned later that day to fix the part, let themselves into our house while I was outside walking the dog, used the bathroom, made themselves at home, and never called before coming like I was told. Below is full story: My landlord's standard general contractor could not work on furnaces and so he sub-contracted out the work to these guys. We were told that they were coming on Wednesday, February 5, and that I was receiving a call before they came. I was able to work remotely that day from home and was ready for them to show. I went to walk the dog outside, took my phone with me, and came back to an unmarked truck parked along the road. The workers had just let themselves in our house while I was walking the dog. I yelled "hello" from upstairs since the truck was unmarked, and I never got a call that they were on their way, and no one answered my hello. I went downstairs and they already had a panel off the furnace. I was scared since I never got a call and the truck doesn't have any business logo or decal. I asked them, "Do you guys just let yourselves in to people's houses? I was out walking the dog and was told you were calling first, and took my phone with me." They just said that their boss never told them to call and that they were sorry but were in a rush, so they let themselves in after no one answered when they knocked. Then I went back upstairs and the upstairs bathroom toilet had the seat still up with urine on the seat. So, I went back downstairs and asked them, "Did you guys just use the bathroom on your own as well? You left the toilet seat up." The older gentleman denied it but the younger one apologized and said it was him. Afterward, they went outside to make a few phone calls. They came back in and the younger gentleman said he had to go to other calls/make other stops and to go get us a part - a smart sensor or something - and that he would be back later that day. I confirmed with him that I'd be here all day if they came back later. He also wasn't sure if Joe (the landlord's general contractor) was paying for the part or what, and that they will get better and work on their communication. They have never come back to actually fix the part since that late morning they said that they'd be back Wednesday afternoon. It wasn't until they left, that I saw the back of their sweatshirts had the business on it. They were from "Allegheny Plumbing, Inc - Heating Cooling."

    Response from the owner

Your landlord coordinated through the general contractor, Joe. All parties involved knew the time and date we were to arrive. Upon arrival we noticed the door was ajar, an indication that you, the landlord or Joe were expecting Allegheny Plumbing to be there as discussed. We called out "maintenance is here" as we were told to do and proceeded to work on the furnace as instructed by your landlord. We've worked with Joe in the past and he is always in the vicinity of the work that needs to be done. Expecting him to be downstairs we headed into the basement. We apologized about the need to use your bathroom and there was no more said. We're not sure why you were startled when you were expecting us, knew who we were and in addition had uniforms clearly marked front and back Allegheny Plumbing. We left to get a special part in which we informed you. While we leaving, You proceeded to tell us that your an Attorney and you know our rights. In all honestly, we weren't sure why you were telling us this. We contacted Joe, at which time he informed us that he wasn't sure who was paying for the job and he was in agreement that he or your landlord would need to find a local contractor that could get the part, complete the job and get paid. I'm sorry if the landlord didn't convey this to you and you were expecting for us to return. In the future, if you are not pleased with any service contact the office for a resolution. My 92 year old mother's only toilet was clogged in the stack and my husband was unable to free it up. Called Tony at Allegheny Plumbing and he was at my mom's house in West Mifflin within the hour! He was kind, trustworthy, and explained and showed me what he did to unclog her pipes, which took him about an hour. He charged a reasonable price and was responsive and compassionate with our situation. I had called Tony several years earlier to fix her gas pipe leak as the gas company had recommended him and I had luckily kept his card. I would definitely recommend Tony at Allegheny Plumbing without reservation.
