BUYER BEWARE! I’ve waited a few days to write this review just to be sure that I could present my thoughts in a calm manner. About a week ago I went downstairs and realized that my basement had started to fill up with water. We didn’t have much, maybe an inch or two but there was much more rain in the forecast. Knowing that my options were limited at 6pm I conducted a quick Google search and identified A to Z Plumbing and Sewer as one of the only operations open that late in the evening. Much to my surprise they agreed to send someone out right away. The friendly tech named Joe showed up promptly to the house. He trudged downstairs and went straight for the sump pump which was no surprise to me. Having very limited knowledge of these things I assumed it was probably a sump pump problem, which in and of itself was concerning since my current sump pump was less than a year old (previous owner had it installed, we bought the house in July 2017). Joe looked at the sump pump for a solid 30 seconds and indicated to me that it was broken. He said the shaft inside had broken. I obviously could not see this inside broken shaft which also meant I couldn’t dispute it. I was then told that a new sump pump (the cheapest they had in their truck) would run me $995 installed. My bargaining position was compromised by the fact that I’ve never bought one before, my basement was filling up with water, and we were set for more rain, so I took the offer. The very next day my basement filled up again. The pump made no difference. I called A to Z and this time Pete(r?) came out. I take him to be the supervisor/manager. He informed me that my problem is the corrugated pipe around the outside of my basement, which would run me a cool $3,500 - $5,500. When I asked him about the sump pump he looked at my old one and also claimed that it was broken, but for a different reason than Joe had stated. Flash forward a week. Since that time I’ve had multiple professionals test my old sump pump which needs a rubber seal I’ll admit, but works just fine otherwise. A to Z set me up with a $150 sump pump and charged me nearly $850 in labor. Mind you it took them all of 10 minutes to install. When I called Pete(r) to discuss my concern I was met with denial and accusations. I presented my evidence and was accused of tampering with the pump prior to having it tested. I was told that I would never get my money back and reminded that I had signed the invoice which rendered me incapable of any action. I won’t lie, I was very upset and responded in anger. That’s not like me. But we are a military family and first time homeowners. We move enough that it’s difficult to always know who to trust. So this is my warning to you. Don’t trust this company. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.

I had them replace an ejector pump which had stopped working. It was a Saturday and I had family staying over and needed the pump fixed quickly. They were able to come the same day to fix it, but after checking around a few days later, I realized they seriously over-charged me. At the time of the repair, I did not know what a typical charge should be. Their cost was $1480. Similar repairs by other plumbers in the area were estimated at $600-800 LESS. I did ask if they up-charged for weekend work and was told their price is the same no matter which day of the week they come. My pump was changed by Pete. He left a bit of a mess behind after the replacement, and he did not even seal the cover on the pit! I left them a message asking for an explanation of their pricing, but they never responded. I would not hire them again, for anything.
